Story

South Africa is in an employment crisis with an overall unemployment rate of 42.6% and youth employment being even higher at a staggering 61%. The high youth unemployment rate has left many of these youth trapped in a cycle of poverty and a poverty mindset, unable to comprehend their potential and contribution to society.

To help reduce youth unemployment in South Africa Belron, in partnership with Afrika Tikkun, created the Technology Transforms Lives ICT and Mentorship programme in 2021 with the aim to help young people achieve ICT certifications and equip them with the skills and knowledge to find and secure a job in the ICT sector in South Africa. The rationale behind this programme is to correctly position the youth of South Africa to transition into the economy and become a commander of their own power.

[The training and mentorship have] made me more passionate and made me want to further my skills as the ICT sector is always growing and changing. It has given a fire in me to become more proactive in learning and researching. – Lisa Mtimkulu

Technology Transforms Lives Mentorship

The Technology Transforms Lives mentorship was established as a collaborative effort between Belron employees and the candidates of the ICT Academy, operated by Afrika Tikkun Services, with the aim to connect Belron employees with information technology experience with the candidates while they complete their qualifications.

In its third year, the Programme has welcomed 120 candidates split between two cohorts and 28 Belron employees signing up as mentors! We look forward to another exciting year of Technology Transforms Lives! The Challenge

The Challenge

The Abergavenny 3 Peaks is a 35km (c10 hours) walking challenge covering the 3 hills: The Blorenge, The Sugarloaf and Ysgyrryd Fawr surrounding Abergavenny on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The three hills cover moorland, hilltops, small Welsh villages as well as the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.

Karen, Guy, and Paul will be raising money by walking the 3 peaks for the Technology Transform Lives programme as part of Belron’s commitment to Afrika Tikkun.
