Youth development is central to what we do

The Afrika Tikkun Cradle-to-Career 360° model has been designed to empower youth from ages 0 to 35. Our programmes play a role in their advancement into independent, self-confident, and active community members.

Early Childhood Development Programme

Afrika Tikkun has positioned itself as a leader in achieving ECD outcomes in an urban township environment, providing scalable holistic services to improve the emotional development and school readiness of children. Daily activities allow teachers and caregivers to meet the specific needs of children where they are at emotionally, encouraging the expression of feelings and emotions, teaching self-awareness and self-control strategies, and the ability to name emotions.
ECD extension programmes allow us to provide a breadth of learning and play.

Child and Youth Development Programme

Afrika Tikkun’s Child and Youth Development programme is an after-school, weekend and holiday programme offered to 7 – 18-year-olds living in and around some of the most structurally disadvantaged communities in South Africa and often attending severely under-resourced schools.
Young people who attend our CYD programme achieve above-average academic outcomes, despite the adversity they face in their schooling environment.
We use a 5 pillar-based strategy which is built on a Resilience and Positive Youth Development theoretical framework and aims to build the competence, confidence, character, connection, and compassion of young people.

CYD extension programmes aim to provide additional academic, social and emotional support to our young learners.

Recognising the moral imperatives governing human affairs, men and women of goodwill can face up to the challenge of our time and make the caring society a reality. So it was from that idea that the word Tikkun was used to start an initiative that would harness the energies of those committed to building a new South Africa.
